Welcome to Coronado! An affluent San Diego Coastal community that was founded in 1885. The land was purchased by Elisha Spurr Babcock, Hampton L. Story and Jacob Gruendike, Wanting to create a resort community, in 1886, they organized the Coronado Beach Company. By 1888 they had built the Hotel del Coronado and the city became a major resort destination. This city boast some of San Diego's greatest architectural structures, tourist attractions, and military arrangements, which are creatively rendered in the coastal art creation below:

Coronado is also home the Naval Base Coronado. Superior in operational scope and complexity, NBC accommodates the requirements of 16 helicopter squadrons, 2 fixed wing squadrons, two aircraft carriers, four SEAL Teams, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command squadrons, and other air, surface and subsurface commands. Commissioned in 1917, the Naval Air Station San Diego was recognized as the birthplace of Naval Aviation by the House Armed Services Committee in August of 1963.
The Naval Air Station Coronado is located at the north end of the Coronado peninsula on San Diego Bay and is the home port of several aircraft carriers of the United States Navy. It is part of the largest aerospace-industrial complex in the United States Navy, Naval Base Coronado in San Diego County, California. North island was once separated from Coronado by a shallow bay called the Spanish Bight which was filled in 1945 during World War II.
To add to it's fantastic vacation destination resort themed environment, a Tent City was constructed in 1900. For a few dollars a week, families could stay in Tent City, Complete with bathing facilities, carnival booths, a Ferris Wheel and dance pavilion, appealed to the emerging middle class who couldn’t afford the hotel
Of the many incredible eye-candy structures in Coronado, is a Victorian style house called the "Baby Dell" which was actually brought here via barge across San Diego Bay in 1985.
The Hotel Del Coronado, built in 1888, was the largest Hotel ever built at the time of construction. It's hosted many Presidents, celebrities and Royalty throughout the years. The original architecture was designed by James W. Reid, and the original land scaping was completed by Kate Sessions.
Do you believe in ghost? One very famous spiritual icon witnessed haunting certain rooms of the Del. is the ghost of Kate Morgan (1865–1892). She was an American woman who died under mysterious circumstances, and is thought by locals to be a ghost at the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, California
The Author of the Wonderful Wizard of OZ, Lyman Frank Baum, often visited the Hotel Del Coronado in the wintertime. He and his wife, Maud Gage Baum, would do so every year but one until 1910, which they rented a house not far away from the hotel, on Star Park Circle. which time he wrote three more “Oz” books and parts of another .
The several identical looking buildings to the south of Hotel Del called the Coronado Shores Towers. These great structures often referred to as 'the Coronado Keys' were originally built in the 1970's and share some of Coronado's most fabulous view; however, since many residents were displeased with the buildings height, Coronado has set a limit of three stories on new construction.
This building located towards the center of Coronado Isle, is the Coronado Public Library. Discover a lot more about Coronado's history and even see the original signed documents of Coronado's original land owners which dates back to 1849.
